French It Girl Skincare Beauty Routines
My French beauty regimen prioritizes health and well-being, including healthy skin and hair, which will naturally lead to other benefits. My attitude to beauty is "less is more." I never use fake nails, lashes, hair extensions, or spray tans. I do not use Botox or fillers and avoid intrusive, unpleasant procedures. And I'm not too concerned about wrinkles (c'est la vie!) as long as my skin is healthy and nourished.
I do not need to have perfect skin or be faultless. I strongly disagree with the adage "il faut souffrir pour être belle" ("beauty is pain"). On the contrary, your beauty regimen should provide you joy and pleasure, with a focus on feeling good about yourself via self-acceptance and compassion.
Diet and Exercise
I think that beauty (and health) begins on the inside. I believe that what we put into our bodies is just as essential, if not more, than what we put on our skin. The proverb "you are what you eat" rings true for maintaining healthy skin, hair, and nails.
That is why I believe it is critical to make healthy lifestyle choices every day: drinking more water, including more (organic) fruits and vegetables in your meals, avoiding processed foods, quitting smoking, reducing alcohol consumption, exercising regularly (via long walks, tennis, yoga, or Pilates), and getting enough sleep.
Aside from eating a healthy and balanced diet, I prefer to include nutrient-rich and probiotic-rich items to create a more diversified and richer diet. Think about green tea, berries, almonds, kefir, kimchi, ginger, turmeric, and kombucha. According to healthline.com, matcha tea has three times more antioxidants than high-quality normal green tea. I like drinking it in the morning. I like Aime Matcha Glow, an organic matcha tea powder with marine collagen, and the original Mariage Frères Matcha powder green tea.
Morning Routine
In the morning, I always use a light, alcohol-free toning lotion with Rose water to freshen, soften, and prepare my skin. Rose water is recognized for its antimicrobial characteristics, which assist to lessen the look of redness. It is also quite helpful in treating oily, acne-prone skin. My favorite toners are Caudalie Moisturizing Toner with Rose Water and Sisley Botanical Floral Toning Lotion.
I use an anti-aging serum, such as Clarins Double Serum, to firm, smooth, and enhance skin luminosity. I follow with a mild, non-comedogenic moisturizer. Violette_FR's Boum-Boum Milk and C'est La Cream, Caudalie Vinosource-hydra Moisturizing Sorbet, and Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré are my fave products. For a thicker and more nourishing moisturizer, I definitely prefer Dieux Instant Angel.
Evening Routine
After washing in the evening, I apply Diptyque Rich Butter to dry regions of my body, often my arms and legs. In summer, I use the popular Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse. Sisley White Ginger Contouring Oil for Legs is a favorite of mine for targeting cellulite and smoothing skin texture.
A beautiful aroma always improves my mood. In the evening, I use body mists and treatment scents (skin perfumes containing fragrant essential oils). My faves are Rituals Amsterdam Collection body mist, Caudalie Fleur de Vigne or Thé des Vignes, and Clarins Eau Dynamisante.
To remove makeup, I use Clarins Total Cleansing Oil or Caudalie Vinoclean Removing Cleansing Oil, followed by Vinoclean Gentle Foaming Cleanser for a double wash. Then I normally use the same serum and moisturizer that I use in the morning. To treat oily skin with blemishes, I replace my anti-aging serum with Caudalie Vinopure Natural Salicylic Acid Pore Minimizing Serum and my moisturizer with Clarins Lotus Face Treatment Oil.
Weekly Beauty Rituals.
I do a spa treatment at home once a week (typically on Sundays). I like using all types of cleanses and masks! For my hair, I use the Christophe Robin Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt, followed by the Regenerating Mask with Rare Prickly Pear Seed Oil. In summer, I use L'Huile de Leonor Greyl as a pre-shampoo treatment to moisturize my dry hair from the sun, salt water, and chlorine.
I use Diptyque Exfoliating Ointment and Rituals Amsterdam Collection body scrub, which leave my skin smooth and velvety. Then, I follow with an exfoliating face cream like the Sisley Gentle Facial Buffing Cream to gently remove dead skin cells and impurities, and a face mask (I adore the cult-favorite Sisley Black Rose Cream Mask).
Seasonal beauty rituals.
At the start of each new season, I schedule a massage or a facial based on my mood and what I need the most. I also make an appointment with my hairdresser (I have a short French bob) for highlights or cuts. I enhance my French beauty regimen with a one-month detox treatment, such as Aime Body Elixir.
